Young Leaders’ Day & Brisbane Central in the Newspaper

7/03/2014

Brisbane Central State School was in the spotlight this week for all the right reasons! Congratulations to Mrs Annette Somerville and Virat C, who were asked to talk about Brisbane Central State School’s involvement in the 2013 Kidpreneur program, in front of 3000 students and teachers!   We are looking forward to sharing their words when released on YouTube. Well done to our student and staff representatives!

Ashley K (Year 7) has provided us with this report on the students trip to the Young Leaders Day:

'I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something. Then I realised...I am somebody. All the speakers had their own interpretation of what this meant. On the 3rd of March, the year 6/7’s went on an educational expedition to the National Young Leaders day. This is where inspirational speakers gather, who are not just anybody but a “somebody”. This year’s program included Mike Martin who is the executive director of the Halogen foundation, Karni Liddell a paralympian, Andy Griffiths an Australian children’s book author, Lorin Nicholson, the first blind person to ride over 4000km and finally to conclude, Wes Mannion, the Director of Australia Zoo. They all shared their life stories and expressed what they thought made a great leader. In addition, we played many fun games, for example, tossing giant beach balls around the stadium. We learnt that nobody is born a leader, but if you possess empathy, persistence, imagination, confidence and passion, anybody can become a leader.'

Secondly Brisbane Central was in the newspaper this week, showing off our Year 7 students who achieved great results in the NAPLAN test last year. Congrats students!
