U2B Numeracy Project

2/05/2014
Next week, our U2B Numeracy Project ends for many of our Year 5 students. The Project, which was held in conjunction with the Brisbane School, of Distance Education, was focussed on improving students’ results in Numeracy, through the teaching of the Thinkboard approach. The project has been so successful over the past three years, that our Year 3- 7 classrooms have now adopted this approach to explicitly teach students the skills of problem solving. Our Year 5 students and their teacher, Ms Michelle Martin, have demonstrated enormous commitment to the U2B Project, through arriving at school at 7.30 am to complete a 1 hour lesson, then following up with online homework during lunch hours.

This term, 12 Year 4 students were invited to participate in the 10 week Write On online program, also with the Brisbane School of Distance Education. Our commitment to the program this year is following the success of the project with Year 4 students in 2013. Students commit to the program during Wednesday lunch hours, also supervised by Ms Michelle Martin. My thanks to Michelle for her hard work in setting up, coordinating and organising both the U2B and Write On programs. We are looking forward to continuing to offer these extension opportunities to our students in the future.
