School roundup for July 25

Party, party, party! We love to have fun at the disco!

School Disco:

A HUGE thanks to our staff and Year 6 and 7 students for a great disco last night. Our students raised over $1,300 towards the Canberra Trip next term!! Thanks to our parents who ran the sausage sizzle and sold food and drinks.  Great work everyone!

Electronic delivery of Report Cards:

Thank you to the parents who have notified Carolina Duncan of your change of email address following the electronic distribution of report cards. Parents are advised that in your  email settings, you should add to your list of safe senders so report card emails are not sent to the Junk folder.

Mistake in School Calendar:

Our Term 3 School calendar, published last Friday July 18, included a date for distribution of Report Cards to parents. This is a mistake. At the end of Term 3, we offer parent-teacher interviews, not a written report. Please disregard this date. Should you wish to discuss your child’s progress before parent-teacher interviews, I wholeheartedly encourage you to make a mutually convenient time with your child’s teacher.

Bastille Day:

Don’t forget on Wednesday July 30, as we celebrate a belated Bastille Day. Everyone is invited to come in Free Dress for the day, just as they do in France. We will be collecting a $2 coin donation for this and in return we will be having "des Fetes" / parties and celebrations in our French class time. The money collected will go towards some food and drink, and prizes for students, so please be generous and support our Bastille Day Celebration.

Farewell to Mr Gary Gradwell:

We were sad to farewell Gary Gradwell, who for a long time, managed to maintain the school grounds on just 11 hours a week. Gary has decided to accept a fulltime position at Newmarket State School, where he has also been working part-time for many years. My sincere thanks to Gary for always working hard to achieve as much as he could in his limited hours at Brisbane Central- he made 11 hours a week seem like 22!  Gary was always happy to help out, was very accommodating of requests and ensured that our school grounds were well maintained. We will miss Gary’s friendly, happy disposition. Thanks Gary!

1:2:1 program with Navitas:

The 1:2:1 program with our volunteers from Navitas kicked off on Friday. The program focuses on extending students’ mathematical knowledge and understanding for selected students in Year 1 and Prep. Parents of students selected for the program would have received a letter on Monday, July 23.  This is the third time Navitas have been involved in a volunteer program at our school, and we welcome them back to our school community. A HUGE thanks to Mrs Alina Pugliese for coordinating the program.
