Principal's end of term wrap up and thanks!

​School Principal

​What we have achieved this term:

  • A massive, community based event- the “Brisbane Central State School Spring Hill Fair”
  • Establishment of a free Parent English Class
  • Continuation of community volunteer programs with TUH
  • Establishment of the school’s first Junior Choir
  • Launch of our new website (linking to the QSchools’ app) and electronic delivery of the newsletter to over half of our families
  • School celebrations: NAIDOC Week, Bastille Day, Book Week and  Maths Fiesta
  • Action Research projects and Instructional coaching program for our teachers to support the teaching of Reading
  • Expansion of our Extension program to include the inter-school Maths Tournament and “Sci-Fi or Sci-Fact” program through Brisbane School of Distance Education, in addition to a high level of participation in the High Achievers’ program at Kelvin Grove State College

These achievements would not have been possible without the extraordinary commitment of our dedicated staff, students, parents, volunteers and community partners. Thank you!!

We are so lucky to have a number of parent volunteers who contribute to the success of our school. A special thanks to :

  • Our  band of parents who helped fundraise through cooking sausages and selling drinks and food at our Election Day stall on Saturday. A HUGE thanks to Miranda Crisci,  Michael Halliburton, Alyson Fenton, Amanda Woolnough, Cecilia Huang, Suzin Tait, Anthony Davis, Kirsten and Bella Lovejoy, Paul Wilson and Ray Clarke for their time.
  • Trevor Dixon who re-turfed our bare patches on the oval over the weekend. It was a lovely surprise on Monday morning!

Parent Teacher Interviews:

This week  teachers have been conducting parent-teacher interviews to discuss students’ work and provide feedback for future growth.  My thanks to the parents who have attended the interviews, and have provided appreciative feedback to our teachers. I encourage every parent to attend an interview so that they are fully informed about their child’s achievement and can address any concerns they  may have. Parent-teacher interviews continue into next week, so if you haven’t already made a time, please contact your child’s teacher .
A MASSIVE thank you to our teachers who have worked exceptionally hard to balance parent-teacher interviews, assessment and Fair preparations this week.

Student Feedback:

As you would be aware, Word Walls play a huge role in supporting vocabulary acquisition.  This term, I have interviewed 5 students from each class about the efficacy of the Word Walls across classrooms
The students were asked:
  • What types of word walls do you have?  For what learning areas?
  • Who choose the words ? Why were these words chosen? What is special about these words? When would you use these words?
  • When do you use the word wall? During what activities do you use a word wall?  Why do you use the word wall?
  • When does your teacher use a word wall?
  • How has a word wall helped you?
  • How has your word wall changed ? What words have been changed ?
I was able to share this student feedback with our teachers, who have  used this information to further develop and improve the word walls across the school.  My thanks to the students involved in this process- your feedback was very useful, and highly valued!
