News roundup - July 26

Adult English Classes:

Also kicking off this week was our first Adult English class, with 13 parents.  This is a phenomenal start to the program! Any parent is welcome to join the group on Tuesdays at 1 pm in the back of the hall. Small children are also welcome. Come along to make some friends, have some fun and improve your English!

TUH Volunteer Program:

Our Prep  Oral Language Program kicked off this week thanks to the help of our TUH volunteers! Last week Mrs Meredith Waghorn provided training at TUH for our volunteers before they embarked on their volunteering adventures in our Prep classes. We are very grateful to the support of TUH. Next week,  we look forward to inviting TUH CEO,  Rob Seljak, who will be coming down to visit see the program and the volunteers in action.

Staff Professional Learning:

This week, Dr Leanne Crosswell, Senior Lecturer & Researcher from the School of Cultural and Professional Learning, QUT,  lead our staff through a number of professional learning activities that focussed on teachers’ beliefs and values about teaching reading , and fixed and growth mindsets towards learning.  Leanne’s interactive sessions lead to rich discussions between staff members focussing on the sharing of thoughts and ideas about our core business: teaching and learning. A HUGE thanks to Leanne for a thought-provoking, interesting and fun session. We will be continuing to build on Leanne’s work as teachers focus on their Action Research projects, and as we finalise our Pedagogical Framework.

Thank you:

Thank the families and friends of the St John’s Cathedral for all their “Earn and Learn” sheets they saved and handed on to Brisbane Central State School. Your ongoing support of our school is greatly appreciated!
