Adobt-a-cop visit

8/08/2013
Our Adobt-A-Cop Constable Sebastian
We were joined this week by Constable Sebastian, who spoke to all our students about situational awareness when walking to and from school. In particular, Constable Sebastian reminded students to:

  • Walk like you mean business.
  • Maintain a confident appearance.
  • Be aware of everything that is going on around you.
  • Remember key street names.
  • Take notice of the location of public telephone boxes.
  • Do not cover both ears with headphones as you may not hear approaching danger.
  • Find an easy way to get to school where there is less traffic and safer road crossings.
  • Consider practical clothing and dress for what you are doing.
  • Practice walking the route with your parents or someone you trust before school starts.
  • Keep to major well-lit streets.
  • Avoid dark areas.
  • Stick to well-travelled routes and avoid shortcuts
  • Let someone know:  where you are going, how long you intend to be, which route you are taking.
While Brisbane is generally a pretty safe city, it is important that parents also discuss these reminders with their children, particularly if they walk by themselves to and from school.
